While several Nebraska counties have banned data centers, Kearney is enacting the city's first-ever codes specifically designed to regulate data centers' noise, water, and power use. Mayor Jonathan Nikkila stated that the goal is to provide clear rules for legal businesses, emphasizing that it is the city's job to create standards rather than pass moral judgment on the businesses themselves. Developers are now expected to begin phased construction on the multi-million dollar campus, with an exact timeline yet to be announced.
