Gov: Mason County zoning commission
Twenty-eight elderly and disabled residents of Meadowland Village, a mobile home park in Mason County, Kentucky, are being forced to relocate to make way for a proposed 2,000-acre hyperscale data center complex. An unnamed artificial intelligence company is acquiring land near Maysville, offering property owners up to 10 times market value, but tenants who own their homes but rent the land face displacement.
Residents like Roger Purcell, who recently had a stroke, expressed shock and uncertainty about the future, noting the difficulty of finding new housing or trailer courts in the area. Rico Roberts, a 20-year resident, believes the $20,000 offered for relocation or purchase costs is insufficient. Pastor Gregory Jones criticized the lack of empathy from the developer and property owner, calling for greater financial support for the displaced.
The data center project still faces significant hurdles. A required zoning change is pending before the Mason County zoning commission, with a vote possible at its next scheduled meeting. Additionally, an anti-data center group has filed a lawsuit seeking to block the development.
