Fisk Data Center Plans Spark Debate in North Nashville
Fisk University plans to build a 30-megawatt data center in North Nashville as part of its master plan. This proposal has sparked debate among neighbors and alumni, who are questioning the data center's impact on the community.
Fisk University, a historic Black university in North Nashville, has proposed to construct a 30-megawatt multi-use data center on its campus. This initiative is part of a larger $900 million master plan aimed at modernizing the 160-year-old institution, dubbed the "Quantum Leap" initiative, which also includes an innovation center, arena, and student facilities.
The data center proposal, however, has ignited significant debate and questions among local residents and university alumni, who are concerned about the impact of the technology on the community, despite the university's commitment to being a "mindful steward."
