Sid Miller stops short of endorsing Democrat Clayton Tucker for ag commissioner over Nate Sheets
Outgoing Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller criticized Republican candidate Nate Sheets for not taking a strong enough position against data center development. Miller highlighted Democrat Clayton Tucker’s call for a moratorium to protect Texas water, farmland and rural communities, while stopping short of endorsing Tucker.
Outgoing Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller used an essay published during early voting to criticize Republican candidate Nate Sheets, arguing that Sheets has been insufficiently aggressive in opposing data centers. Miller praised Democrat Clayton Tucker’s positions on protecting water, farmland, property rights and rural communities, but said he had not formally endorsed Tucker.
Miller and Tucker have called for an immediate moratorium on data centers, citing concerns about water use and corporate expansion. Sheets responded by accusing Miller of trying to block his path to the agriculture commissioner’s office and described Miller’s criticism as a badge of honor. The dispute is unfolding amid the Texas agriculture commissioner campaign and Miller’s continued appearances at anti-data center events.
