New Mexico Commissioner Halts Green Data's Spaceport Data Center Plans
New Mexico Commissioner of Public Lands Stephanie Garcia Richard halted Green Data CEO Jason Bak's plans for a data center on Spaceport property, marking the second rejection for Bak's projects in the state. Bak had proposed using atmospheric water generation for cooling, but he and his company have yet to successfully build a data center. Earlier, a partnership with New Mexico Tech in Socorro for a similar project also fell through.
New Mexico Commissioner of Public Lands Stephanie Garcia Richard has once again blocked developer Jason Bak's proposal to construct a data center on state-owned Spaceport property. This recent decision, announced Thursday, marks the second time Bak, CEO of Green Data, has faced rejection for his data center initiatives in the state.
Earlier this year, Bak's plans to build a solar-powered data center on 10,000 acres near Socorro, in partnership with New Mexico Tech, fell through. The university withdrew from the deal in June, citing insufficient contiguous land for the project.
Bak has consistently promoted the use of "atmospheric water generation" technology as a sustainable cooling solution for his data centers, which would extract moisture from the air. Despite these proposals and his advocacy for innovative water solutions, neither Bak nor his company, Green Data, has yet successfully constructed a data center.
