The Fulton County Area Plan Commission is reviewing a nine-page framework that would establish where data centers could be built and how they would operate. The draft includes a proposed 1,500-foot buffer from schools, churches, hospitals and nursing-care facilities, along with requirements related to noise, water planning, energy practices and facility decommissioning.

Residents attending the commission’s informational meeting questioned whether the proposed setbacks would adequately protect communities and argued that land area and square footage may better measure a facility’s impacts than electrical capacity. Planners are continuing to collect public input before finalizing the standards; no formal hearing or vote was held at the meeting.
