Google is planning to build a massive data center in southeast Nebraska, potentially in Gage, Lancaster, Oto, or Cass County. The data center would require 2,000-3,000 megawatts of power, more than the entire city of Lincoln uses on a peak summer day. To power the data center, Google would need to build its own on-site power plant, which would require a change in Nebraska's public power laws.

According to a report from Flatwater Free Press, Google is planning to build a massive new data center in southeast Nebraska, potentially in Gage, Lancaster, Oto, or Cass County. The data center is expected to require between 2,000 and 3,000 megawatts of power - more electricity than the city of Lincoln uses on a typical peak summer day.
To power the data center, Google would need to build its own on-site power plant, which would require a change in Nebraska's public power laws. Currently, the state operates under a public power model, but the legislature is considering a bill that could allow the data center project to move forward.
Omaha-based Tenaska would likely be the owner, builder, or manager of the on-site power plant. Google already has multiple data center sites in the Omaha metro area, including two in Council Bluffs and one each in Omaha, Papillion, and north Lincoln. This proposed southeast Nebraska facility could be the company's next major data center investment in the state.
