Residents in Lowell Township report stolen anti-data center signs amid recall efforts
Residents in Lowell Township say signs opposing a proposed Microsoft data center have been stolen from their yards and dumped in ditches. Opposition leaders have filed police reports and are pursuing recalls of three township officials after the board declined to pass a data center moratorium.
Residents of Lowell Township say dozens of yard signs opposing a proposed Microsoft data center near I-96 and Alden Nash Avenue have been stolen and discarded in rural areas. Sign organizer Rob Schroeder said he and other residents filed police reports after multiple batches of signs were found in ditches, though no suspects have been identified.
Melissa Tischler, who is helping lead a recall effort against three township officials, said residents feel intimidated and that the officials failed to support a data center moratorium earlier this year. She said recall petitions obtained nearly 1,300 signatures for each official, exceeding the roughly 900 signatures required to place the recalls on the ballot, with elections potentially occurring in May.
