Boise Mayor Lauren McLean is proposing an emergency moratorium to prevent mega data centers from being developed within Boise city limits. The proposal comes before the Boise City Council at a Tuesday public hearing and would take effect immediately if approved.

McLean said the moratorium is intended to protect the city's water, electricity supply, land and residents from the potential impacts of large-scale data centers. Boise currently has no applications for mega data centers, but the city joins other Idaho communities that have adopted similar development pauses.
