Teachers in Louisiana's Richland Parish are receiving substantial bonus checks due to a surge in sales tax revenue. This increase is attributed to the ongoing construction of a new Meta data center, providing a significant economic boost to the rural school district. Local leaders hope these large bonuses will attract high-quality teaching talent to the area.

Richland Parish, Louisiana, is experiencing significant economic benefits from the ongoing construction of Meta's $27 billion data center, leading to substantial sales tax revenue increases.

These funds are directly benefiting the Richland Parish Schools, where vested, certified teachers are receiving bonuses of $50,900, referred to as the "13th check." Other teachers and staff are also getting payouts exceeding $17,000.

Scott Franklin, founder of the Richland Parish Chamber of Commerce, expressed optimism that these lucrative bonuses will attract top teaching talent from across the state and the South, thereby enhancing the quality of education for local children. He also noted that sales tax collections are projected to remain elevated for another three to five years during the peak construction phase of the data center. Franklin's family sold the 1,400-acre site to the state over two decades ago, envisioning it as a transformational opportunity for the economically struggling region and its school system.
