Farmers in Kenansville, Florida, are voicing concerns about a potential hyperscale data center proposed for more than 200 acres off North Canoe Creek Road. Residents worry the project could consume substantial water, worsen saltwater intrusion, and accelerate the loss of agricultural land, while CBRE’s listing says Duke Energy would provide service beginning as early as 2028.

A CBRE listing advertises a potential hyperscale data center on more than 200 acres at 5300 North Canoe Creek Road near Kenansville in Osceola County. The project could be energized beginning in early 2028 and would be served by Duke Energy, which told WESH 2 that it is legally obligated to serve locally approved economic development projects within its territory.

Local farmer Aaron Mick of Mick Farms said residents oppose the possible development because of its potential effects on the area’s rural character and agricultural land. Mick also raised concerns that high water use could worsen existing saltwater intrusion problems affecting deep wells. No formal approval or construction decision was reported, and the project remains a potential development identified through the online listing.
