Campgrounds in Eastern Iowa were reportedly packed this Fourth of July, largely due to data center construction workers occupying many local campsites. This has left longtime campers, like Kynsie Anderson's family, scrambling to find space.

Anderson's family, who has a tradition of camping at Unhitched Sleepy Hollow RV Park in Oxford, Johnson County, for the Fourth of July, couldn't secure their own campsite this year and are sharing a cramped camper. Stephanie Chrisman, the Johnson County Campground manager, stated that this is the busiest the park has ever been, with about 85% of campsites occupied by data center construction workers. Families who have camped there for years are now finding it much harder to reserve a spot unless they plan far in advance, as their traditional sites are often taken by data center workers. Despite the challenges, Anderson's family is determined to continue their holiday tradition.
