Google says data center campus designed with environment in mind

Google has applied for a permit from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) to fill more than two acres of wetlands on its data center campus in Allen County, Fort Wayne. A virtual public hearing regarding the permit application is scheduled for August 25.
A Google spokesperson stated that the data center's design prioritizes environmental stewardship, with engineers intentionally avoiding over 75% of regulated wetlands, preserving more than 32 acres of high-quality forested land. The company plans to address the minimal impacts across approximately nine acres by providing over 18 acres of mitigation credits, aiming for a 2-to-1 net gain in conserved and restored wetlands within Allen County and across Indiana.
