Lake Elsinore Extends Data Center Moratorium To 1 Year
The Lake Elsinore City Council unanimously extended its temporary moratorium on data center approvals by 10 months and 15 days, creating a one-year pause. City staff will use the period to develop zoning regulations and standards addressing potential impacts on water, energy, air quality, land use and public safety.
The Lake Elsinore City Council unanimously extended its urgency moratorium on data center approvals by 10 months and 15 days, bringing the total duration to one year. The pause gives city staff and the city attorney time to review the zoning and municipal codes and develop legally defensible regulations for future data center proposals.
The original 45-day moratorium was adopted amid community concerns about water and energy consumption, air quality, land use, fire risk and emergency response. The proposed Elsinore Heights Industrial Project had previously withdrawn its optional data center component, leaving no data center applications pending in the city at the time of the extension.
