WBRZ, state and local officials tour Hut 8 construction site as data center eyes 2027 completion
Hut 8 hosted Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry and local officials at its data center construction site in West Feliciana Parish, saying the facility remains on schedule for completion in 2027. Supporters tout its economic potential and closed-loop water system, while critics including the Louisiana Bucket Brigade call for a moratorium on data center development.
Hut 8 officials hosted Gov. Jeff Landry, local officials and businessman Donald Trump Jr. at the company’s West Feliciana Parish data center construction site. Hut 8 said about 1,200 workers are currently employed on the project, with roughly 200 permanent jobs expected after completion. The company said construction is on schedule for a 2027 finish.
Landry and Trump Jr. described the facility as important to Louisiana’s economic future and the national competition in data centers and artificial intelligence. Louisiana Bucket Brigade Director Ann Rolfes criticized the project and broader state support for data centers, carbon capture and AI, arguing that the state should impose a moratorium. Hut 8 said the site is located away from residents and uses an off-site, recirculating closed-loop water system designed to avoid drawing on local water resources.
