County seeks applicants for data center advisory workgroup
Wright County, Minnesota, is seeking applicants for a newly established Data Center Moratorium Workgroup. This group will guide the county's review of data center development and help develop future regulations during a yearlong moratorium. The workgroup will study environmental, fiscal, infrastructure, and land-use impacts of data centers.
Wright County, Minnesota, has established a Data Center Moratorium Workgroup to study the potential impacts of data center development and recommend future regulations for township areas. The workgroup was formed by the Wright County Board of Commissioners at its June 16 meeting, following the approval of a one-year moratorium on data center development in unincorporated township areas in May.
The advisory group will examine environmental, fiscal, infrastructure, and land-use considerations related to data center development. It aims to balance economic opportunities with potential long-term impacts on communities and natural resources, providing recommendations to the County Board before the moratorium expires in May 2027.
The workgroup will consist of up to 14 members, including two county commissioners, two Planning Commission members, two township supervisors, a utility company representative, a water resources expert, two data center industry representatives, and four community members. County Board Chair Darek Vetsch and Commissioner Kirby Moynagh, along with Planning Commission members Charlie Borrell and Randy Wilson, have already been appointed. The county is currently seeking applications for the remaining positions, with a deadline of July 10.
