Westlake town council to vote on controversial new data center
The Westlake Town Council is holding a special meeting to vote on a development agreement for a new data center. The project, located near the border of Keller, has sparked significant opposition from Keller residents concerned about regional impacts, including power, water use, and noise. While the land has already been approved for a data center, the development agreement outlines infrastructure and other land requirements.
The Westlake Town Council is scheduled to vote on a new data center development agreement, a move that has caused a significant rift between Westlake and the neighboring city of Keller. As reported by Trevor Sochocki, the meeting is expected to draw hundreds of attendees, following weeks of public comment at both Westlake and Keller town council meetings.
While the land for the data center, located on 88 acres near Highway 377 bordering Keller's Marshall Ridge neighborhood, has already been approved for data center construction, today's vote is specifically on the development agreement. This agreement aims to ensure proper installation, infrastructure upkeep, and other land requirements. The City of Keller last week formally expressed its opposition to the data center through a resolution. Keller residents are concerned about potential regional impacts, including power, water use, and noise, despite Westlake's assertion that these factors were considered during the initial approval process. Due to recent threats of violence against Westlake town officials, extra security precautions will be in place at the meeting, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early.
