The FOX21 Business Insider segment featured John Murray, CEO of the Colorado Springs Chamber and EDC, discussing Project Taurus, a proposed data center development in Colorado Springs. The project plans to redevelop a former Intel site on Garden of the Gods Road, which has been vacant for many years. Murray emphasized that it's an "infill project," utilizing an existing industrial facility rather than developing new greenfield land.

The proposed data center has sparked conversations in Southern Colorado regarding its economic impact, power and water usage, and environmental effects. Murray explained that a data center is essential modern technology, managing and storing digital information used daily for everything from emails to online banking. He addressed public concerns by stating the city and utilities are conducting a thorough review.

Murray highlighted the significant benefits of Project Taurus for Colorado Springs and El Paso County. He projected 6,200 high-paying jobs with average annual incomes well above the county's average of $68,000. Additionally, the project is expected to generate $20 million per year in sales tax, covering three-quarters of the city's current $32 million budget shortfall. Property taxes would also benefit School District 11 and the local library, which are facing state and federal cuts.
