A second Duos Edge data center is slated for downtown Amarillo, Texas, which leaders say will expand digital infrastructure and enhance connectivity throughout the Texas Panhandle. This new facility, described as a microscale edge data center by Duos Edge AI, will be strategically located near the petroleum building, a crucial hub for regional data traffic.
Unlike large-scale data centers, this smaller, more flexible facility will require minimal power, equivalent to about two homes, and no water. Company officials emphasize that keeping data closer to users will significantly improve performance and reliability for local businesses, schools, and healthcare providers, offering local storage options instead of relying on distant major cities like Dallas or Denver.
The project is privately funded and is expected to generate lease revenue for Potter County, with no direct cost to the county. Duos Edge AI noted that work is currently focused on securing permits and establishing infrastructure connections. This new downtown location marks the second edge data center for Amarillo, following an earlier deployment at Region 16, with plans for potential future expansion across other Panhandle communities depending on demand.
