Champion, Warren townships plan meeting on data centers
Champion and Warren township officials in Trumbull County plan a public meeting to discuss zoning and other rules for a potential data center. Officials identified the former Copperweld Steel property, which straddles both townships, as a possible site, but said no developer has made an inquiry.
Officials from Champion and Warren townships plan to meet Nov. 4 to discuss zoning guidelines and other requirements that would apply if a data center were proposed in either community. Champion Trustee Chairman Doug Emerine said the township has not received an inquiry but is reviewing approaches used by Hubbard Township and other communities.
The former Copperweld Steel property off State Route 45, a 360-acre site divided between Champion and Warren townships, was identified as the most likely location for a potential project. Warren Township Trustee Ed Anthony cited the site's available land and proximity to the river, while noting that cleanup problems and ongoing litigation remain. The townships are preparing their zoning codes and intend to hold public meetings if a data center or other major business expresses interest.
