The Scottsdale City Council voted unanimously Oct. 20 to ask City Attorney Luis Santaella to return with options for an ordinance regulating data centers. The potential rules could govern siting, noise levels and water consumption.
Mayor Lisa Borowsky, who placed the issue on the agenda, said the city should prepare for possible data center applications, including in industrial-zoned areas and potentially near neighborhoods. No specific data center project or company was identified, and the ordinance has not yet been adopted.
