Google has confirmed its interest in building up to six data center buildings near the Duane Arnold Energy Center in unincorporated Linn County, close to Palo Marsh and Power Plant roads. The project would use the site's proximity to the nuclear facility and would expand Google's existing Iowa data center presence in Council Bluffs and Cedar Rapids.

Google sent mailers to Palo residents announcing an Oct. 22 open house at the Palo Community Center. Representatives, including Iowa and Nebraska data center public affairs manager Trent Fellers, will present information and answer questions as the company prepares to seek annexation into Palo. Google said it will not seek property tax cuts or rebates, and credited Palo's finalized data center ordinance with helping move the project forward.
