A federal grand jury in Manhattan has been impaneled to investigate American tech billionaire Neville Roy Singham, who resides in China. The Department of Justice probe centers on allegations that Singham funneled hundreds of millions of dollars to a network of Marxist, socialist, and pro-Beijing activist groups across the United States. These organizations, including Code Pink and the People’s Forum, are accused of promoting narratives that defend the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and instigating protests to advance a critical perspective on China.

China expert Gordon Chang explained to The National News Desk that Singham's alleged activities align with the CCP's "united front" strategy, aiming to subvert the U.S. Chang believes Singham coordinated with the United Front Work Department, a branch of the CCP focused on subverting foreign nations. Additionally, Chang highlighted Singham's alleged efforts, partly through his wife Jody Evans, co-founder of Code Pink, to oppose data center developments.

The investigation will also consider whether Singham complied with the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). Chang noted that Singham-linked groups are suspected of having helped block over $23 billion in American AI data center and infrastructure projects, asserting that while some opposition is local, not all protests are organic. Chang expressed support for the Justice Department's investigation, citing concerns about illicit and concealed funding.
