Data center expansion in southwest valley unanimously approved by Zoning Commission
The Clark County Zoning Commission unanimously approved Switch's proposal for a nearly 57,000-square-foot data center expansion in southwest Las Vegas. Residents voiced concerns regarding research, energy, water, and noise, which were addressed by commissioners and company leaders. Switch highlighted its use of 100% renewable energy and a closed-loop water system.
The Clark County Zoning Commission in Las Vegas has unanimously approved Switch's proposal to expand its data center campus, the largest in Southern Nevada. The plan includes a nearly 57,000-square-foot data center warehouse located at Warm Springs Road and Edmond Street.
Despite the unanimous vote, more than a dozen residents attended the meeting to voice concerns regarding the environmental impact of data centers, with Nancy Olds of the Toiyabe chapter of the Sierra Club calling for more research. Commissioners, including Michael Naft and Jim Gibson, along with Switch leaders, addressed these issues by noting Switch's use of 100% renewable energy, a closed-loop water recirculation system, and plans to build on existing Switch-owned land to mitigate noise. Switch also withdrew some development standard exceptions and agreed to fund a pedestrian barrier.
Commissioner Naft emphasized that the approval was specific to this project and not a general commentary on all data centers.
