Hermantown Data Center Vote Delayed Again
Hermantown officials delayed a vote on Google's proposed Northeast Minnesota data center for a second time after protesters filled a contentious public meeting. The city canceled a follow-up meeting because of a conflict with early voting and is now scheduled to consider the agreement Friday.
Hermantown city leaders postponed consideration of an agreement for Google's proposed data center in a rural area near Duth for the second time. The delay followed a contentious Monday meeting attended by protesters opposing the project.
Officials scheduled another meeting for Tuesday but canceled it because of a conflict with early voting. Although public opposition may have contributed to the repeated delays, city officials have not confirmed that it was a factor. The Hermantown City Council is scheduled to consider the agreement Friday, with attendance limited inside the council chambers.
