Geronimo Power is opposing a proposed two-year development moratorium in Harmony Township, North Dakota, saying it could delay energy investments and jeopardize the company’s proposed data center. The data center is undergoing conditional-use review, with a township vote on the moratorium scheduled for Thursday.

Geronimo Power President Blake Nixon is urging Harmony Township officials to reject a proposed two-year development moratorium that could affect the company’s planned data center. The project is currently in conditional-use review, while the company already has a permitted solar and energy-storage project in the township.

Nixon said Geronimo representatives were not given time to speak at a recent meeting, though utilities were allowed to address the township. He cited projected local benefits including more than $140 million in payments and hundreds of jobs, while warning that a moratorium could delay investment and increase relocation costs. Township officials were scheduled to vote on the proposed pause Thursday.
