Public Hearing Scheduled for Data Center Gas Pipeline Stormwater Permit in West Virginia
A public hearing is scheduled regarding a stormwater discharge permit for a natural gas pipeline project supporting the Monarch Compute Campus data center near Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The pipeline, being built by Hope Gas for Nscale, will supply natural gas for electricity generation at the data center. The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection is conducting the hearing and public comment period.
The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Water and Waste Management has scheduled a public hearing for June 15 at the Mason County Courthouse. The hearing will address a stormwater discharge permit application for a 556.5-acre earth disturbance project related to the installation of natural gas pipelines in Putnam and Mason counties, West Virginia.
This pipeline infrastructure is being developed to support the Nscale data center, known as Monarch Compute Campus, located north of Point Pleasant. Nscale plans to use internal combustion engines powered by natural gas to generate electricity for its data center operations. Hope Gas previously announced its plans in March to construct a 30-mile, $250 million natural gas pipeline to northern Mason County, aiming to provide gas service to new industry, including the Nscale site, and local residences and businesses.
The WVDEP will provide information and accept official public comments on the application, with the public comment period ending on June 25.
