Vienna Township extends moratorium on data centers
The Vienna Township Board of Trustees voted to extend its moratorium on data centers by 60 days. This extension allows the Trumbull County Planning Commission to review new regulations and requirements for potential data centers that the Zoning Commission has completed. The original moratorium had expired.
The Vienna Township Board of Trustees has extended its moratorium on data centers by 60 days. Trustee Phil Pegg explained to 21 News that the initial moratorium was put in place to give the Zoning Commission time to develop specific regulations and requirements for data center development within the community.
While the Zoning Commission has now finalized these rules, the Trumbull County Planning Commission requires additional time for review. The extension was enacted because the original moratorium had expired, ensuring the Planning Commission has sufficient time to complete its assessment, which Pegg anticipates will be finished by September.
Pegg also voiced his concern that moratoriums can act as a deterrent for businesses, suggesting that a 30-day extension would have been adequate, though other trustees preferred a longer period. He emphasized the importance of making Vienna attractive to businesses.
