On Monday, plans were publicly unveiled for a massive $6 billion data center campus in Clinton Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. The proposed development includes 20 buildings spanning 682 acres and features two on-site gas power plants.
Lindy Corporation, the developer, indicated that while no specific operator has been secured, major artificial intelligence companies have expressed interest in the facility. If approved, the data center is projected to consume an estimated 60,000 gallons of water per day and employ hundreds, with 10-15 employees per building per shift for the data center and 20-25 for the power plants.
The proposal is currently in its initial approval phase with Clinton Township supervisors. A challenge highlighted is the township's land development ordinance, which lacks specific provisions for data centers, essentially forcing supervisors to evaluate it as a standard commercial project. Residents living near the proposed site have voiced significant concerns.
The next public hearing for the project is scheduled for August 22nd at the Park Street complex in Honesdale, where the public will have an opportunity to provide input.
