Hut 8 Data Center Concerns in St. Francisville
Hut 8 is developing a new data center in St. Francisville, Louisiana, with operations expected by Q3 2027. West Feliciana Parish President Kenny Havard is addressing local concerns about electricity consumption, water use, and noise, assuring residents that these issues are being mitigated.
The construction of Hut 8's new data center in St. Francisville, Louisiana, is progressing, with an anticipated full operational status by the third quarter of 2027. The project has sparked community concerns regarding its impact on electrical power demand, water resources, and potential noise pollution.
West Feliciana Parish President Kenny Havard addressed these concerns, acknowledging their validity but expressing confidence in the data center's management of these issues. He noted that the facility's location near a paper mill and a significant distance from residential areas should minimize noise impact, with Hut 8 currently conducting noise studies.
Regarding water usage, President Havard clarified that municipal water would be limited to standard building functions and fire suppression. Crucially, water required for the data center's cooling systems will be sourced and trucked in from offsite, ensuring no additional strain on local water supplies. The project is also expected to create local jobs.
