Group against building data centers in Lubbock gets enough signatures in their petition
A group called "Citizens of Lubbock Against Data Centers" has successfully collected enough signatures for a petition requesting an 18-month moratorium on new data center projects within Lubbock city limits. The petition will now be submitted to the City Secretary, who will verify the signatures before it goes to the City Council for a public hearing and vote.
The group "Citizens of Lubbock Against Data Centers" has announced that they have gathered sufficient signatures for a petition advocating for an 18-month moratorium on new data center developments within the city. Organizer Stephen Sanders confirmed that the group exceeded the requirement of 2,410 signatures from registered voters in Lubbock. The petition is slated for submission to the City Secretary.
Upon submission, the City Secretary's office will first count the signatures to ensure the minimum threshold is met. Subsequently, copies will be made, and the verification process will begin to confirm that each signatory is a qualified voter. If deemed valid, the petition will then mandate the City Council to call a public hearing and vote on the proposed moratorium within 30 days. Currently, the City Council is not actively considering any data center proposals.
