Could Voters Stop One Of Georgia's Largest Data Center Developments?

A growing battle over data centers in Georgia could soon make state history. More than 14,000 Coweta County residents have signed a petition seeking to overturn approval of Project Sail, a proposed nine-building data center campus that would be one of the largest in Georgia if built. The petition also seeks to block future data centers through changes to the county's zoning code. The effort relies on a little-used provision of the Georgia Constitution known as a home rule petition. If the signatures are certified, voters could get the opportunity to decide the future of Project Sail in a special election. Residents say they are concerned about the scale of the development and the growing number of proposed data centers across Coweta County. Project supporters, including developer Prologis, say they remain committed to the project and continue engaging with the community.
