A proposed 69,000 square-foot data center adjacent to the Nashville Zoo is facing significant community pushback, with over 200,000 people signing a petition against the development. The Nashville Zoo's president expressed being caught off guard by the project, which they fear could negatively impact sensitive animals, increase water and energy demands, and generate noise.

Zoo leaders are particularly concerned about the facility's proximity, as they had planned to use part of the property for a future education and conservation center. They also noted the potential impact on Mill Creek, which contains an endangered crayfish species.

Drew Small, a local resident living near the proposed site, launched a website called 'No New Data Centers' and organized a social media campaign and door-to-door canvassing to mobilize opposition. Small argues that while the developer, DC BLOX, may have more funding, the community in Davidson County has more people who care about the issue. A public hearing on the proposed data center is scheduled for June 11th at 4:00 p.m. at the planning commission, offering residents a chance to voice their concerns.
