3rd Cedar Rapids data center ready for construction
Oppidan is set to begin construction on a new 10-megawatt data center in Cedar Rapids this fall. This facility will be smaller in scale compared to the larger data centers being developed by QTS and Google near The Eastern Iowa Airport. The article also touches on the growth of AI data centers in the area without straining resources.
Oppidan, a national property development firm, is preparing to construct a new 10-megawatt data center at 1515 33rd Ave. SW in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with construction slated to begin this fall. The project, valued at over $100 million and spanning more than 98,000 square feet, is notably smaller than other data center developments in the region.
Comparatively, QTS is building a 612-acre campus valued at $1.75 billion, and Google is developing a 414-acre facility worth $567 million near The Eastern Iowa Airport. U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright highlighted Cedar Rapids' QTS campus as an example that AI data centers can expand without increasing utility rates or depleting water resources.
