The Murray City Council in Kentucky has unanimously enacted a temporary one-week moratorium on all data center development, following significant community opposition. City Council member Wesley Bolin stated that he heard no support for data centers from residents, city government, or his fellow council members.

The decision comes two days after a special meeting and public hearing held by the Murray Planning Commission, where numerous community members voiced concerns and advocated for a full moratorium rather than just regulations.

Council member Bolin confirmed that the Planning Commission and City Council will hold another meeting in mid-June. Their objective is to further discuss, revise, and conduct a first reading for a new ordinance aimed at safeguarding Murray residents from the potential risks associated with data center development.
