Sioux City's Planning and Zoning Commission discussed how data centers could be regulated under the city's zoning code. Officials noted that the existing ordinance does not include data centers as a land-use category, prompting plans to develop a specific ordinance or amendment.

Residents and other members of the public were invited to share their views after the informational session. A commissioner said the goal is to examine the issue in detail, gather public input and ensure the city does not overlook important considerations before presenting a draft amendment to the commission on Oct. 27.
