Governor Jim Pillen has appointed 17 members to the newly created Nebraska Data Center Task Force. This group, established by an executive order from Governor Pillen and overseen by the Nebraska Department of Water, Environment and Energy, will evaluate the impact of data centers on the state's water resources, power grids, and local infrastructure.
The task force will also work to ensure that county officials are equipped with the necessary tools, including zoning guidelines and a police framework, to effectively manage data center growth. Governor Pillen stated, "Data centers are a booming industry, yet we need to protect our most valuable resources... Together, they will ensure that we are making solid decisions when it comes to balancing data center development with the continued preservation of our land, electricity and water." The task force is scheduled to hold its first meeting next month.
